Our Natural Playscape

A place to dig.

So last night I was directed by a Facebook page that I like, to a great website, Let The Children Play.  The post I read was about creating a natural playscape in the backyard for your children to enjoy.  Before I was halfway through I knew that my girls would love it, that I would love creating it, and that we’d get lots of use out of it.  Please check the page out, their playscape came out so cool.  All three have so far proved true.  They suggested that when creating a natural play area you include a place to dig, an outdoor kitchen, and a place to hide.  We added a place to sit, and a place for Mommy to sit.  We spent about half an hour this afternoon creating our space, and the girls played for about two hours before we had to run errands.  They have plans to wake at the crack of noon, make hot cocoa (you know, like growned-ups drink coffee), and go outside to check on the mudpies they left “roasting”.  We used items we found in the attic and the shed, and stuff that was in our yard already.  The kitchen area isn’t quite done yet, I want to pick up some clay pots and some more wooden utensils, and maybe a shelf or two, but that will come (my neighbors just haven’t been throwing things out like they should).  For now Ryleigh and Logan are in mud kitchen heaven.  If you decide to give it a try, we’d love to see pictures on our Facebook page!  *Hint: if you want to view larger pics, click on them.  Happy playing!  -K

First we had to treasure hunt.

A place to dig.

Ryleigh making mudpies at the kitchen.

A place to hide.

Making adjustments.

Lola wasn't into it at first. Just finished napping. Kept complaining of being "coldy".

She came around. Made mud cupcakes and pizza. Got terrifically dirty.

Dakota was intrigued. Or just miffed at not being the center of attention.

I’m so glad you think it could work for you! From what I’ve seen on your blog, your daughters seem incredibly confident in their space, so I bet they are more than ready. If you do it, I would love to see a photo of your snack station on the A Living Family Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/alivingfamily

Thanks for stopping by the blog! sheila :)
